Our laser tattoo removal machine has been developed to best meet the needs of the patients and as well as tattoos, our machine is able to give excellent results for the most common skin imperfections including: pigmented lesions, vascular lesions, and skin ageing.

The mechanical effect of the laser fragments the ink in smaller components, which allows your immune system to process them naturally.

Our laser tattoo removal machine is effective for the treatment of dark inks such as black, dark blue and brown, as well as the more diverse red, orange and purple tones.

However, we always carry out a patch test on a small area before carrying out full treatments so that you know exactly what results to expect and how many sessions will be needed. Contact us today to book your patch test session during which we will answer any questions you may have about laser tattoo removal.

How Does Laser Tattoo Removal Work?

Okay, it’s time to get a bit technical so it’s back to school time!

When tattoo ink is placed into the skin, it usually goes in to a depth of between 2-3mm into the dermis – the middle layer of skin.

Basically; over time the body tries to remove these ink particles by sending white blood cells to the place of the tattoo in order to try and break away the tattoo ink because they recognise the ink as foreign particles.

When the white blood cells realise that the ink particles are too large to take away, the body locks the tattoo into place with collagen and this is what makes the tattoo permanent and remain in place for many years.

So to get rid of the tattoo, it is essentially about breaking down the tattoo ink particles and this is what we use the laser for.

When the laser comes into contact with the tattoo, the laser light is absorbed by the tattoo ink. This creates a photo acoustic shock wave that releases the heat from the tattoo and shatters it into minute particles (this is known as a photo mechanical effect).

When the particles are shattered, they are then small enough to be carried away by the white blood cells and leave the body through the lymphatic system, then through the kidneys and out through your urine. So in effect you are weeing-out your tattoo!

It usually takes multiple laser sessions to break down all of the tattoo ink particles and the period of time between treatments allows the white blood cells to remove the broken down particles. For a better idea of how many sessions it will take to remove your tattoo, please book in to come in and see us for a patch test and consultation.

Does Laser Tattoo Removal Hurt?

The amount of pain felt during the laser tattoo removal treatment will very much depend on the type of tattoo you have and the amount of treatment required.

Your own pain threshold is also a factor to consider! Some clients would describe it as no more than uncomfortable, whereas others will describe it as an elastic band flicked against the skin.

The truth is that you will not know how painful you will find treatment until you try it! We do give advice on pain relief if you need it and will always do everything we can to make you as comfortable and at-ease as possible during the procedure.

Does Laser Tattoo Removal Cause Scarring?

Often our clients see a reduction in the tattoo after the very first treatment, however to completely remove a tattoo depends on the ink, colour and how deep it has been put into the skin.

It could be up to ten treatments however it is necessary to leave intervals of 4, 6 or 10 weeks between treatments depending on what is determined during your initial patch test and consultation.

It is very tricky to precisely tell how many treatments you will need, as we do not know how well the tattooing has been carried out initially – yes we do get clients that want drunken-mistake tattoos removed from wild holidays! – however we always maintain complete discretion and professionalism with all of our clients.

The number of treatments required may also be determined by how strong your immune system is and how deep the ink has gone beneath your skin.

It may sometimes be a case of coming for an initial treatment or patch test and then seeing how well your body disperses the ink in the 6 weeks after the laser tattoo removal procedure has been carried out.

Does Laser Tattoo Removal Cause Scarring?

Believe it or not, the tattoo itself is actually a scar already!

However, the good news is that although there is a risk of scarring with any laser, in most cases, scarring is not a significant risk for laser tattoo removal.

This is because our Vega QS laser tattoo removal machine works with 2 wavelengths, 1064 nm and 532 nm, generating an extremely powerful pulse with very short emission times. The precision and consistency of the laser beam allows for very effective treatments in absolute safety.

The only reason that laser tattoo removal has become associated with scarring is because the first lasers that were used for laser tattoo removal were very aggressive and therefore carried a very high risk of scarring.

Our machine uses the very latest technology and is precision built in Italy and is of a full medical-grade standard. Without doubt, the Q-Switched Nd:YAG 1064 nm/532 nm laser is recognised as the leading technology for laser tattoo removal, so you can rest assured that you are in extremely safe hands.
