About this Treatment

Reshaping / defining the eyebrows by tattooing or applying semi-permanent make-up has become a growing trend. This is leading to the need for a way to reverse, or undo the procedure; whether the expected results didn’t deliver, the outcome has faded over time or there is change in what is perceived to be a desirable shape.

Beau Boutique Salon uses a Q-Switched Nd: YAG laser as its high-intensity helps to provide effective, long-lasting results. The powerful beams of light emitted from the laser device targets the affected area precisely. As the pigment in the tattoo / semi-permanent make-up is usually darker than the surrounding skin, it attracts the laser beam. The light energy turns to heat when in the dermis, working to break down the ink which fragments and gets disposed of naturally through the body’s lymphatic system.

Each laser eyebrow removal is treated individually as the specific colouring and thickness of the eyebrows have been uniquely designed to suit the individual; therefore requiring a tailored approach. The amount of treatment sessions needed to remove the tattooing / semi-permanent make-up can vary from person to person, and Beau typically looks to perform 3-6 procedures (carried out every 8-12 weeks).

Frequently Asked Question

Who is suitable for permanent makeup removal?

This treatment is often found to be suitable for people who are unhappy with the appearance of eyebrows that have been applied through the use of a tattoo or semi-permanent make-up. Beau will carry out a thorough consultation and patch-test prior to the actual procedure, and if the eyebrow has been done recently, a minimum of 8 weeks will need to have passed.

Is permanent makeup removal safe?

This treatment is considered to be safe when performed by a trained therapist who will have the skill to perform the procedure with precision, and the knowledge to ensure it is carried out safely. Each treatment session is designed to reduce the appearance of the tattooing / semi-permanent make-up, and we ensure that each patient is aware that not all cases achieve complete removal.

Is permanent makeup removal painful?

The skin around the eyes can be a little more sensitive than other areas of the face and body. Therefore, it would not be uncommon for clients to experience some slight discomfort – often described as a slight stinging sensation. A topical anaesthetic can be applied prior to the treatment, and the laser’s in-built cooling device helps to reduce any discomfort.

Are there any side effects or risks?

Redness and swelling are common side effects which often ease within 24 hours. It’s common for eyebrow hairs to become lighter in colour, and in some cases eyebrow hairs can be lost – however, most people find they will grow back naturally. Clients should contact Beau Boutique if they are at all concerned, or have any further questions after their permanent makeup removal procedure.

What results can I expect?

The Q-Switched Nd: YAG laser is effective when treating darker pigments which is why it’s used for this purpose. Results will develop gradually with each treatment session, fading the tone of the tattooed eyebrow until it is barely visible. If clients wish to re-treat the eyebrow area, we recommend they wait for around 8-12 weeks.
