If you look at the tool used for these treatments, you may notice it looks similar to a razor that you would use on your body hair. The basic concept is the same as shaving.
By aiming a sterile blade at a 45-degree angle and dragging it slowly across the skin, it removes dead cells, scar tissue, and other debris that may be making your skin’s surface look uneven.
Dermaplaning clears away those damaged skin cells so newly produced skin cells take their place on the surface of the skin. In technical terms, this is what is responsible for the removal of keratinized cells on the outer stratum corneum and fine vellus hair – also known as ‘peach fuzz’.

Dermaplaning is not described as a painful treatment. You may feel a scratching sensation on the skin as the blade is moved over the skin.
Immediately after treatment the treated area may become red, and feel sensitive. In less common cases the patient experiences breakouts, infection, ongoing irritation or skin discolouration. Carefully following your aftercare instructions will significantly reduce the risk of developing complications.
The full outcome is usually visible around 3 months after the last treatment session (if a course has been recommended). This will allow for the new layer of skin to fully develop which will be smoother, younger looking and more radiant.
