About this Treatment

The Cosmelan peel is the world leader and number one professional de-pigmentation treatment. It can be used on the face, back, shoulders, arms neck and hands, and is designed to noticeably improve the appearance of common concerns associated with skin discolouration, including: melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, chloasma, solar lentigo and freckles.

The Cosmelan depigmentation facial restores an even tone to the complexion by regulating the overproduction of melanin (the natural pigment produced in the skin). Through its dual corrective and controlling actions we can achieve both short and long-term results by keeping hyperpigmentation under control and preventing future development.

The treatment begins at home through the application of pre-treatment products and the Melanostop pre-treatment peel. After two weeks you’ll need to come to the salon where we’ll carry out the Cosmelan peel, and provide you with your first month of homecare products.

Azelaic acid and Kojic acid are key ingredients contained in the peel which help to increase skin luminosity and correct an uneven tone. Azelaic acid destroys bacteria on the surface of the skin, and boosts new skin cell production. And, Kojic acid (which is derived from several types of naturally existing fungi) works to inhibit the production of melanin in the skin.

Frequently Asked Question

Who is suitable for the Cosmelan depigmentation peel?

Hyperpigmentation is caused by the overproduction of melanin, the pigment responsible for skin colour. It’s usually the accumulation of pigmented cells which leads to irregular skin colouration and dark spots that encourages clients to seek an effective solution, and restore their natural tone. Our consultation will determine your suitability for treatment.

Is the Cosmelan depigmentation peel safe?

This is a medium depth peel that does not contain hydroquinone or steroids, deeming this a safe treatment for many clients. If you have an active skin condition, infection or a known allergy to any of the ingredients used, we will not recommend this treatment for you.

Is the Cosmelan depigmentation peel painful?

The homecare products should not cause any irritation to the skin. The peel itself may cause a slight tingling sensation while it’s developing on the skin, however, this should not be painful. If you feel any discomfort, either from the homecare products or the peel, contact the salon and speak to one of our practitioners.

Are there any side effects or risks?

The peel may cause the skin to become red, tight and slightly itchy immediately after the treatment. This should only last for a few hours, but the skin may continue to be a little sensitive. Washing with unscented products and applying a high SPF before going outside will help to prevent further irritation.

What results can I expect?

The final result usually develops within 3-6 weeks. Dark spots and blemishes will fade and a brighter appearance will become noticeable.
