Frequently Asked Question

What areas can be treated with Lumecca IPL?

At our skin clinic in Ashford, Kent, we chose to introduce the Lumecca IPL treatment because it can be used on all areas of the body, with most common areas of treatment including zones that are regularly exposed to the sun: face, neck, décolletage, legs, hands and arms.

How does the Lumecca treatment work?

Lumecca operates using photothermolysis, which provides a photofacial through the delivery of specific wavelengths of light to the skin.

The light interacts with the red and brown pigments (haemoglobin and melanin), which are absorbed and heated up to destroy the unwanted lesion. During Treatment there will be a bright flash of light from the lumecca handpiece that feels like a light elastic sensation. And, as the irregularities are targeted precisely, there is no damage caused to the surrounding skin or tissues.

How long do the results last?

Lumecca treatments typically last between 6- 18 months, but the longevity of the results varies from person to person. To maintain the results, most patients need a maintenance treatment every 6–12 months and best results are seen after an initial round of 1-3 treatment sessions.

The number of treatments you need depends on your skin concerns and the condition of your skin before treatment. Some people see permanent results after one treatment, while others need up to three treatments.

Our Ashford clinic is equipped with state of the art skin-analysis photo equipment which means we can track your results and show you, in-depth how your skin is improving after each session.

We also advise that you follow a good skincare routine and use a factor 50 SPF to prolong the results. Products from our Obagi, ZO and Cellderma ranges will be recommended to you at your appointment as well as a bespoke home-care routine.

Who is suitable for the Lumecca IPL?

Lumecca IPL can be used on many parts of the face and body, and is often used to remove unwanted skin lesions and areas of discolouration, such as: age spots, spider / thread veins, facial redness (rosacea), freckles, melasma and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

Is Lumecca IPL safe?

Lumecca IPL is manufactured by InMode, and is one of the industry’s most trusted IPL devices available on the aesthetics market. Lightwaves are a natural source of energy that are effective for skin rejuvenation.

Is Lumecca IPL painful?

Lumecca IPL is not generally described as a painful treatment. Most patients report feeling a mild tingling while the procedure is being carried out, with a prickly sensation occurring when the light flashes.

Are there any side effects or risks?

Redness and a slight warming of the skin are normal after treatment and usually subsides within an hour.

Over the 24 – 48 hours after treatment you may see a darkening of pigmented spots; in the week afterwards the pigmented lesions flake off, leading to an evening out of skin tone.

After treating vascular lesions you may see the vein blanch and disappear or a colour change in the vessel which dissipates after a few days.

What results can I expect?

We often recommend a series of treatment sessions within the course. Results may be seen after the first treatment, improving further as the course progresses. Typically, a significant reduction in the unwanted lesion will take around two weeks to develop.
