About this Treatment

The Obagi Blue Peel Radiance is one of the most popular chemical peels available and can improve your skin’s look, texture and feel in a matter of minutes. It is a non-invasive pharmaceutical-grade treatment to address the problem of the skin. The Obagi peel is a gentle peel designed to work on the surface of the skin to improve the appearance of acne scars, lines and wrinkles, sun spots, rough skin, uneven skin, blemishes and photoaging.

During the procedure, the skin is thoroughly cleansed before the Blue Peel Radiance prep solution is applied and then left to dry completely. The first layer of Blue Peel Radiance will be applied and set on the skin for at least 30-60 seconds. If the skin tolerates the first layer, the second layer of solution is applied. The peel will remain on the skin for at least 10 minutes before being removed by a gentle cleanser and water. A non-chemical sunscreen is then used to calm the skin post-treatment.

This treatment refines skin tone, texture, superficial discolouration and pigmentation, reduces pore size and targets oily skin and acne for fresh and glowing skin. The Radiance Blue Peel is an excellent choice if you suffer from skin breakouts or have pesky blemishes/marks on the skin from previous breakouts.

Skin Peel FAQS

How does the Obagi Peel work?

The Obagi Blue Peel Radiance is a Salicylic Acid, Glycolic Acid and Lactic Acid peel suitable for all ethnicities which work to decongest, brighten and smooth skin texture.

This chemical face peel will shed dead skin, unblock clogged pores. This is a great chemical peel for acne sufferers or those with redness from previous acne breakouts, as it will improve breakouts and also improve red acne scarring, giving a refreshed complexion. Obagi’s peel is suitable for all ethnicities with no prior skin preparation required of the client.

Obagi’s 2% Glycolic & Lactic Acid and 20% Salicylic peel gently exfoliates the dermis to resurface and expose healthy, new and glowing skin. The peel solution is completed by a strengthening, epidermal-loving concoction of peptides, retinol, witch hazel and willow bark extract that also helps shed dead skin whilst also unblocking clogged pores.

This is a lighter strength chemical face peel with very little downtime so you can have it during your lunch! The chemical peel provides tighter and brighter looking skin after just one treatment, although a course of four to six peels provide the best overall results.

Do I need to prepare my skin before this peel?

No. This is a superficial, Salicylic Acid face peel, so generally no skin preparation is required. You can have it on the day of your appointment, irrespective of ethinicity and skin type.

However, if your skin barrier is impaired (dry) then you will need to prepare the skin before your Obagi Blue Radiance Peel. Our skin specialist will be able to provide you with medical skincare products to restore your skin barrier before your peel.

What do I need to do to get the best results?

  • We advise that you will stop using any active skincare products, e.g. containing retinol, glycolic, other AHA’s or bleaching products, for 3 days prior to your peel.
  • It is recommended that you have not had sun bed treatment or experienced sunburn or any other form of burn to the face in the 2 weeks prior to your peel.
  • If your skin barrier is impaired (dry) then you will need to prepare the skin before your Obagi Blue Radiance Peel. Our skin therapist will be able to provide you with medical skincare products to restore your skin barrier before your peel.If you think that this might be the case please contact us so we can arrange for you to start applying these products before you come for your treatment.

What aftercare is recommended for this peel?

You will need to use a medical moisturiser to assist the shedding of dead skin after your chemical face peel. You will also need to wear an approved medical SPF following your peel for at least 14 days (although we recommend it long term). Both products can be provided by our skin specialist from our range of products available to purchase in the clinic. Our specialist can also use our digital skin scanner to help measure and track your results if you have a course of peels.

You should avoid sweating, exercising, hot baths and showers for 72 hours after your peel; avoid scrubbing, picking or rubbing the skin for 5 days after your treatment. Avoid strong sun exposure e.g sunbathing with face in sun, and tanning beds for at least 14 days after your treatment.

How many peels will I need?

The number of treatments needed varies depending on the type of peel and the skin concern(s) being treated.

Some clients have the Obagi Blue Radiance Peel as a one-off to freshen the skin or control breakouts. However, as it is a superficial peel you would need a course of 3 to 6 treatments to see dramatic results or treat actual skin conditions. For example, as a chemical peel for acne or chemical peel for hyperpigmentation you would need this number of treatments.

Are there any side effects or risks?

Depending on your skin type and home care regimen, a skin peel may cause increased sensitivity.

Side effects may include (but aren’t limited to): stinging, itching, irritation, redness, swelling, tightness, peeling and scabbing of the skin, scarring, post inflammatory hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation.
